Dell Latitude 7490 (14-inch) · Launched January 2018

Dell Latitude 7490 Trade-In Value in Pakistan (2026)

The Latitude 7490 is the premium 14-inch Dell of 2018, one tier above the 5490. It has an aluminum lid, carbon fiber palmrest option, magnesium bottom, better thermals, and generally shipped with better display options (FHD IPS at 300 nits, some with QHD touch). In 2026 it is one of the better-selling used business laptops on Hafeez Center because it looks premium and feels more like a modern ultrabook than the plastic 5490.

Trade-in ranges are consistently Rs. 8,000-15,000 above a same-spec 5490 because of the build quality and screen. As always, CPU tier, RAM, SSD, BIOS password status, and battery cycle count determine the exact number.

What actually drives your price

BIOS admin / system password (Dell service-tag lock)

CRITICAL. Same rule as 5490. A locked 7490 needs Dell's paid service-tag unlock which is not always available for grey-market units. Locked units = parts-value only (Rs. 22,000-30,000). Clear the password in BIOS (F2 at Dell splash) before you sell.

Screen (huge price impact on 7490)

FHD IPS 220-nit = baseline. FHD IPS 300-nit = +Rs. 3,000-5,000. FHD IPS touch = +Rs. 4,000-6,000. QHD touch (rare) = +Rs. 6,000-9,000. HD (basically none on 7490 but a few 1366 SKUs exist) = Grade B ceiling.

Battery health (60Wh internal)

Under 20% wear = full offer. 20-40% = -5-8%. 40%+ or Dell Power Manager service warning = Rs. 9,000-13,000 battery replacement deducted.

Chassis condition (aluminum + carbon fiber)

The aluminum lid shows scratches and dents more than plastic. Clean lid = full price, dented lid corner = -Rs. 4,000-6,000, cracked carbon-fiber palmrest = Rs. 12,000-16,000 top-case replacement deducted.

Keyboard, backlight, TrackPoint (optional)

Backlit keyboard = expected on 7490, no premium. Any dead key or spill = Rs. 4,500-6,500 keyboard replacement. Some 7490s have a Dell TrackPoint variant, works fine, no premium or discount.

Ports (2x USB-C / TB3, USB-A, HDMI, SD, RJ45)

7490 has real Thunderbolt 3 on both USB-C ports. Dead TB3 = -Rs. 6,000-9,000. Dead USB-A = -Rs. 3,000.

Fingerprint, smart-card, and WWAN

Working fingerprint = +Rs. 2,000-3,000. Smart-card slot = +Rs. 1,500-2,500 for government/bank buyers. WWAN card and SIM slot present = +Rs. 3,000-5,000.

Original 65W charger + dock

Original Dell 65W USB-C charger = +Rs. 2,500-3,500. Dell WD15/WD19 dock = +Rs. 8,000-14,000.

How to prepare before selling

  1. Clear the BIOS admin/system password in BIOS Setup (F2). Cannot clear = tell us upfront.
  2. Wipe the drive via Windows Settings > Recovery > Reset this PC > Remove Everything (Clean drive).
  3. Note the Dell service tag from the bottom sticker, we look up warranty and original spec.
  4. Test both Thunderbolt 3 ports with a real TB3 device or dock.
  5. Check battery wear via BatteryInfoView or Dell Power Manager, screenshot it.
  6. Update BIOS to latest via Dell SupportAssist.
  7. Wipe the aluminum lid and screen, blow dust out of the intake fan.

How this model compares to newer versions

The Latitude 7490 is two generations behind current 7450 (Meteor Lake) and no longer officially supports Windows 11. Still runs Windows 11 unofficially and Linux perfectly. For sellers moving to a newer Latitude 7440/7450 or a ThinkPad T14, expect 40-50% recovery of what you paid.

FAQ

Is the Latitude 7490 really worth more than the 5490?

Yes, Rs. 8,000-15,000 more for a same-CPU spec because of aluminum build, better screen options, Thunderbolt 3, and thinner chassis. It looks and feels premium in a way the plastic 5490 does not.

My 7490 has a Dell BIOS admin password I don't know, can you help?

We can attempt Dell's official service-tag unlock if you have the original Dell Pakistan invoice. Without it, most grey-market units cannot be unlocked and we quote parts-value only (Rs. 22,000-30,000).

The screen has yellow tint or backlight bleed, how much does that cost me?

-Rs. 5,000-8,000 depending on severity. Yellow tint from age (uncommon on 7490) drops it to Grade B minimum. Backlight bleed at corners = -Rs. 3,000-5,000.

Can I upgrade the RAM to 16GB before selling?

Yes, 7490 has two SO-DIMM slots up to 32GB total. 16GB stick costs Rs. 5,500-7,500 and adds Rs. 4,000-5,500 to the offer. Marginal ROI unless you already have RAM.

Do you buy 7490s with cracked hinges or lifted keyboard?

Yes, but the repairs come out of the offer. Cracked hinge cover = Rs. 3,000-5,000. Lifted or bulging keyboard (swelling battery) = we deduct the Rs. 12,000-16,000 battery + top-case replacement cost.

How long from WhatsApp quote to cash?

Send service tag, BIOS password status, battery wear, and photos to 0314 4000131 for a pre-quote in 1-2 hours. In-shop: 30-45 minutes, cash on the spot.
