Dell Latitude 5490 Trade-In Value in Pakistan (2026)

The Dell Latitude 5490 is the entry-level business-class Dell of 2018 (8th-gen Intel Core), the natural budget alternative to the ThinkPad T480. It is bulky, plastic on the outside, but genuinely serviceable, RAM and SSD are upgradeable, battery is user-replaceable on some SKUs, and the port selection is generous. In 2026 it is still the most affordable way into a real business laptop with docking-station support at under Rs. 60,000.

Trade-in on a 5490 hinges on CPU tier (i3 vs i5-7300U vs i5-8250U vs i5-8350U vs i7-8650U), screen (HD vs FHD IPS vs FHD touch), RAM (8GB vs 16GB), and above all BIOS admin password status. A password-locked Latitude requires Dell's paid service tag unlock which is not always available for grey-market imports.

Historical price anchor

New at Rs. 165,000-220,000 in 2018. Refurbished imports settled around Rs. 65,000-90,000 by 2022-23.

What actually drives your price

BIOS admin / system password (Dell service-tag lock)

CRITICAL discount factor. Dell's password lock ties to the service tag and requires Dell BIOS master password (paid service) to clear. Unlocking a grey-market unit is not always possible. A locked 5490 = Rs. 15,000-20,000 parts-value only. Clear the password in BIOS (F2 at Dell splash > Security) before selling.

Screen type

1366x768 HD = Grade B ceiling regardless of condition. FHD IPS 220-nit = full range. FHD IPS + touch = +Rs. 2,000-4,000. Cracked panel = Rs. 6,000-9,000 replacement, deducted.

Battery health

5490 uses a 42Wh or 68Wh internal battery. Under 20% wear = full offer. 20-40% = -5-8%. 40%+ = Rs. 6,000-9,000 replacement deducted (aftermarket batteries are cheap on 5490).

Chassis condition (plastic)

5490 is plastic top and bottom with a metal accent. Cracked corners near the hinges are very common on units used in offices. Cracked lid corner = -Rs. 3,000-5,000. Broken hinge = Rs. 5,000-7,000 repair deducted.

Keyboard and backlight

Backlit keyboard version = +Rs. 2,000-3,000 vs non-backlit. Any dead key, spill, or missing keycap = Rs. 3,500-5,000 keyboard swap.

Ports (USB-C, USB-A x3, HDMI, VGA, RJ45, SD, dock)

Latitude 5490 has an unusually complete port lineup including VGA (rare in 2026) and RJ45. Any dead USB port = -Rs. 2,500. Dead USB-C (also affects charging on some SKUs) = -Rs. 5,000-7,000.

Fingerprint reader and smart-card slot

Working fingerprint = +Rs. 1,500-2,500. Working smart-card slot = +Rs. 1,000-2,000 for government/bank buyers.

Original 65W charger and Dell dock

Original Dell 65W barrel charger = +Rs. 1,500-2,500. Dell WD15 or WD19 dock = +Rs. 8,000-14,000.

How to prepare before selling

  1. Boot into BIOS (F2 at Dell splash) and clear the admin/system password. If you don't have it, tell us before you come, we quote parts-value.
  2. Wipe the drive via Windows Settings > Recovery > Reset this PC > Remove Everything (Clean drive).
  3. Note the service tag from the bottom sticker or BIOS, we look up warranty status on Dell Support.
  4. Test all ports including VGA, HDMI, USB-A, USB-C, RJ45, SD card slot.
  5. Check battery wear percentage via BatteryInfoView (free tool) or Dell Power Manager.
  6. Update BIOS to latest via Dell Update or SupportAssist.
  7. Blow dust out of the intake fan on the bottom, wipe the chassis and screen.

How this model compares to newer versions

The Latitude 5490 is two generations behind current Latitude 5450 (Meteor Lake) and no longer officially supports Windows 11. For sellers upgrading to a newer Latitude or a ThinkPad T14, expect 35-45% recovery of what you paid. It is not a strong resale machine but it is a fair budget business laptop in 2026.

FAQ

My Latitude 5490 is BIOS-locked, can you unlock it?

Dell service-tag unlock is possible but slow and inconsistent for grey-market units. We treat locked 5490s as parts-value (Rs. 15,000-20,000). If you have the original invoice from a Dell authorised reseller, we can help you go through Dell Pakistan for an official unlock.

Should I upgrade RAM to 16GB before selling?

Maybe. 16GB DDR4 SO-DIMM costs Rs. 5,500-7,500 in Hafeez Center. It adds Rs. 3,000-4,500 to the offer, so you break even or lose a little. Not worth it unless you already have the RAM.

Do you buy 5490s without the original charger?

Yes, but -Rs. 1,500-2,500. A generic 65W charger costs Rs. 2,000-3,000 in Hafeez Center, so we deduct that.

What if my screen is HD (1366x768) and works fine?

We can swap for an FHD IPS in-house for Rs. 5,000-7,000 and pay you the FHD range minus that cost. Usually nets you Rs. 3,000-5,000 more than selling as-is with HD.

Can I trade in against a Latitude 7490 or ThinkPad T14?

Yes, full trade-in value applied as store credit against anything on the shelf.

How long is the process at your shop?

30-40 minutes: BIOS password check (5 min), full hardware test (15 min), agree, cash. WhatsApp service tag, BIOS password status, and photos to 0314 4000131 for a pre-quote first.
