How this calculator works

How does the 'Repair or Replace' calculator work?

You pick your laptop's main fault (cracked screen, dead battery, motherboard fault, water damage, etc.), your laptop's tier (budget business, gaming, MacBook, etc.), and roughly how old it is. The calculator estimates the current used-market value using a Pakistani-market depreciation curve and compares it against the repair cost. If the repair costs less than 25% of the laptop's value → Repair. Between 25%-40% → Marginal (WhatsApp us for a second opinion). Over 40% → Replace (we'll buy the broken laptop for parts value and put the cash toward a newer unit).

What is the rule of thumb for repair vs replace?

The Pakistani used-laptop-market rule of thumb: if the repair cost is more than 40% of the laptop's current used-market value, replacement is almost always the better financial decision — sell the broken unit for parts value (we pay Rs 8,000 – 90,000+ depending on model even for non-working laptops) and put the cash + top-up toward a newer/better laptop. If repair cost is under 25% of value, repair is clearly worth it. In between (25%-40%) — depends on the laptop's remaining useful life and whether other components are also failing.

How accurate is the used-market value estimate?

The tier + age estimates are approximate — grounded in Pakistan's used-laptop market depreciation curve. MacBooks depreciate ~14%/year (slowest), business/gaming laptops ~18%/year, budget consumer laptops ~24%/year. If you want an exact number for your specific model + spec, override with the exact used-market value field, or WhatsApp us your model and we'll give you a real buy-back quote in 10 minutes.

Do you buy broken / dead laptops even if you don't repair them?

Yes — we buy laptops in every condition, including completely dead ones. The buy-back price for a non-working laptop reflects parts value (screen, battery, keyboard, RAM, SSD, chassis) plus board salvageability. Even fully dead units are worth Rs 8,000 – 90,000+ depending on the model. This is what makes the 'Replace' verdict practical — you're not writing off the broken laptop, you're converting it to cash toward the next one.

What if the calculator says 'Marginal'?

'Marginal' means repair cost is 25%-40% of value — the answer depends on your specific situation. Factors that push toward Repair: the fault is isolated (other components healthy), you love the laptop and its shape/keyboard/screen, budget is tight, you'd have to buy a downgrade. Factors that push toward Replace: other components are also getting flaky, the laptop is your daily driver and downtime hurts, you were going to upgrade anyway in 6-12 months. Are the repair cost estimates final?

The ranges shown are typical Pakistani-market rates at N.N Laptops. Actual quote depends on your exact model — MacBook parts cost more than Dell/HP parts, and some Chinese-market grey-import panels can shave 30-40% off the repair bill vs OEM.
