How We Bench-Test Every Laptop — Our 23-Point Inspection

Before any used laptop is listed, it passes a 23-point bench test at our workshop at Shop 66A, 3rd Floor, Hafeez Center, Gulberg III, Lahore. We read true battery health and cycle count with BatteryInfoView and HWiNFO, check SSD SMART health with CrystalDiskInfo, stress the RAM with MemTest86, flood-test the screen for dead pixels and backlight bleed, register every key one by one, and plug a live device into every port. Hinges, speakers, microphone, webcam, thermals, charging, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and the BIOS are all confirmed — not assumed.

This is the honest version of buying used: we photograph and record every unit during the check, write the real cosmetic grade and test figures into the listing, and our owner, Sayam, signs each laptop off before it goes on sale. You can ask us on WhatsApp at 0314 4000131 to send photos, a short video, and the exact battery and SSD numbers for the unit you are considering before you commit to anything. Once you are happy, we reserve and dispatch it, deliver free inside Lahore, and back every laptop with a 15-day check warranty that starts on delivery.

The bench-test process, step by step

Six stages from intake to sign-off. The full check takes around 45 minutes per laptop at our Hafeez Center workshop.

  1. Intake & source check at the workshop

Every laptop arrives at our Hafeez Center workshop where our technicians log it, photograph its as-received condition, and confirm the source before any work begins.

  2. Software diagnostics

We run the software pass first — CrystalDiskInfo for SSD SMART health, MemTest86 or Windows Memory Diagnostic for RAM, and BatteryInfoView / HWiNFO for true battery design-vs-current capacity and cycle count.

  3. Physical inspection, key by key

Our Hafeez Center workshop technicians then test every key, every port with a live device, the hinges and chassis flex, and run the dead-pixel and backlight flood test on the screen.

  4. Thermal & load test

A sustained CPU/GPU load checks temperatures and clock stability, the fans are listened to, and the vents and heatsink are cleared of dust so the cooling is real.

  5. Cosmetic grading & clean OS install

The body is graded A to D, the previous owner's data is wiped, and Windows is clean-installed and activation confirmed (or macOS reset to clean on MacBooks).

  6. Photographed, recorded & signed off

Finally each unit is photographed and recorded, the real grade and test results are written into the listing, and the owner, Sayam, signs the laptop off before it goes on sale.

The 23-point checklist in full

Every point below is checked on every used laptop. The tools we name are the ones we actually run — nothing here is for show.

1. Battery health & cycle count

BatteryInfoView and HWiNFO read the battery's design capacity against its current full-charge capacity, plus the charge-cycle count. The real wear percentage goes in the listing — no rounding it up.

2. Full charge-cycle confirmation

We run the battery from a low charge to 100% on the original-style charger and confirm it holds, so the health figure reflects a real cycle, not a single instant reading.

3. SSD SMART health

CrystalDiskInfo reports the drive's SMART status — power-on hours, reallocated sectors, and remaining wear / lifetime — so a tired SSD is caught before it ever reaches a buyer.

4. RAM stress test

Every memory module is stressed with MemTest86 (or the Windows Memory Diagnostic) to surface intermittent bit errors that a quick boot would never reveal.

5. Screen dead-pixel & backlight flood

Full-screen solid colours expose dead or stuck pixels, and a black-screen flood test catches backlight bleed and clouding around the edges.

6. Display brightness & colour

We step the panel through its brightness range and check colour uniformity, looking for dim corners, banding, or a yellow/pink cast across the display.

7. Keyboard, key-by-key

A keyboard test registers every single key in turn — no dead keys, no sticky keys, no missing letters — and the backlight is checked level by level where fitted.

8. Trackpad & gestures

The trackpad is tested for tracking accuracy, click feel, and multi-finger gestures (scroll, zoom, swipe) across the full surface, edge to edge.

9. All ports, with a live device

Every USB-A and USB-C port, HDMI, the SD card reader, and the audio jack is tested by plugging in a real, working device — not just a visual glance.

10. Hinges & chassis flex

The hinges are opened and closed through their full range to check for sag or grinding, and the chassis is checked for cracks, flex, and a level base.

11. Speakers & microphone

Both speakers are played across low and high tones to catch rattle or a dead channel, and the microphone is recorded and played back to confirm it captures cleanly.

12. Webcam & Windows Hello

The webcam is checked for a clear, correctly-oriented image, and where the laptop has an IR camera the Windows Hello face login is confirmed working.

13. Fingerprint reader

If the laptop has a fingerprint reader, we enrol a print and confirm it unlocks reliably — a feature that is easy to assume works and easy to find broken.

14. Thermals under load

A sustained CPU/GPU load is applied while we watch temperatures and clock speeds, confirming the laptop stays stable and does not throttle hard or shut down.

15. Fan & vent cleanout

Fans are listened to for bearing noise, and the vents and heatsink are cleared of dust so the cooling the thermal test measured is the cooling the buyer actually gets.

16. Charging & DC jack

The charging circuit and DC jack / USB-C charging are tested under load to confirm the laptop charges steadily without a loose or intermittent connection.

17. Wi-Fi & Bluetooth

Wi-Fi is connected and speed-checked on the shop network, and Bluetooth is paired with a live device, so wireless is confirmed rather than assumed.

18. BIOS / boot & no password lock

We enter the BIOS to confirm a clean boot and verify there is no supervisor / BIOS password or vendor lock that would block the buyer — a common trap on ex-corporate laptops.

19. Status & charging LEDs

Power, charging, and Caps/Num-lock status LEDs are checked so every indicator behaves the way the buyer expects on day one.

20. OS clean install & activation

Windows is clean-installed and its activation status confirmed (or macOS reset to a clean state on MacBooks), so the laptop arrives free of the previous owner's data and accounts.

21. Previous-owner data wipe

Before the clean install, the drive is wiped so none of the previous owner's files, logins, or recovery partitions carry over — important for both privacy and a true fresh start.

22. Cosmetic grade (A / B / C / D)

The body, lid, and screen bezel are graded A to D for wear — scuffs, dents, and shine are described honestly so the photos and the grade match what arrives.

23. Final sign-off, photos & video

Every passing unit is photographed and recorded, the results are written into the listing with the real grade, and the laptop is signed off before it is offered for sale.

Frequently asked questions

What is the 23-point check?

It is the fixed inspection every used laptop passes at our Hafeez Center workshop before it is listed — 23 separate checks covering battery health and cycle count, SSD SMART health, RAM stress, the screen for dead pixels and backlight bleed, key-by-key keyboard and trackpad, every port with a live device, hinges and chassis, speakers and microphone, webcam and Windows Hello, thermals under load, charging and DC jack, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, BIOS and password locks, the status LEDs, a clean Windows install with the previous owner's data wiped, and a final cosmetic grade. Each point is listed in full on this page.

Do you test battery health?

Yes — every laptop. We use BatteryInfoView and HWiNFO to read the battery's design capacity against its current full-charge capacity, plus the charge-cycle count, and we run a full charge cycle to confirm it. The real wear percentage goes straight into the listing; we do not round a tired battery up to look healthier than it is. If battery health matters to you, ask us on WhatsApp at 0314 4000131 and we will send the exact figure for the unit you are looking at.

What does the 15-day check warranty cover?

Every laptop is backed by a 15-day check warranty. If something we should have caught in the 23-point check turns out faulty within 15 days of delivery, we repair it or replace the unit. It is a check-and-confidence warranty on the hardware we tested, not a damage or accident cover. Full terms are on our return policy page, and you can always confirm details on WhatsApp at 0314 4000131 before you buy.

Are these refurbished or just tested?

Both, honestly described. Every laptop is bench-tested through the 23-point check, the drive is wiped and the OS clean-installed, and the cooling is cleaned out. Where a part needs replacing to pass, our workshop replaces it. We grade the cosmetic condition A to D and describe it plainly — we never present a used laptop as new, and we list the real grade with the photos.

Can I watch the test or see my unit before buying?

Yes. Because we photograph and record every unit during the 23-point check, we can send you photos and a short video of the exact laptop — including the battery health and SSD figures — on WhatsApp at 0314 4000131 before you commit to anything. Once you are happy, we reserve and dispatch it, with free delivery inside Lahore, and your 15-day check warranty starts on delivery. You are welcome to visit the workshop at Shop 66A, 3rd Floor, Hafeez Center, Gulberg III, Lahore to see it in person.
