How to pick the right charger for your laptop
Two things matter and nothing else: wattage and connector shape. Buy a charger below the manufacturer's rated wattage and your laptop will refuse to charge fast enough — the battery drains even while plugged in. Buy the wrong connector shape and it won't fit at all. Every other spec (voltage, amperage, cable length, brand logo) is secondary.
Golden rule for USB-C PD laptops (most 2018+ business ultrabooks): use a 65W PD-certified charger for ThinkPad T/L, Dell Latitude 5000/7000, HP EliteBook. Use 90W for XPS 15 and larger ThinkPad P-series. Use 30W for Chromebooks and iPads (won't hurt but won't charge a laptop under load). For barrel-plug laptops (pre-2018), the exact tip size matters — 4.5×3.0mm for Dell, 4.5×3.0mm for HP, 5.5×2.5mm for older Lenovo — a mismatched tip physically won't seat.
Genuine vs. compatible chargers — the honest picture
In Pakistan's used-charger market you have three tiers: genuine OEM (Rs. 4,500-9,000 for most 65W USB-C), quality compatible from Anker/Baseus/Ugreen (Rs. 2,500-5,000, PD-certified, safe long-term), and generic no-brand (Rs. 1,200-2,500, works but our repair bench sees these damaging the laptop's USB-C power-delivery chip within 6-18 months). A common mistake: buying a phone-style 20W or 30W USB-C brick because "it fits." It technically charges the laptop while idle, but under actual workload (Chrome + Zoom + a couple of Office windows) the battery drains at 5-10% per hour even while plugged in.
