ThinkPad X1 Carbon Keyboard Replacement Cost Pakistan

The X1 Carbon's keyboard is a slimmer, low-profile unit than the T-series, with a more refined scissor mechanism and — on Gen 8 through Gen 10 — a physical camera shutter slider built into the deck above the keyboard. It's a more complex module than a standard ThinkPad keyboard, which is reflected in the price, but it's still a screw-mounted, no-adhesive part that comes out cleanly once the bottom cover is off.

Pricing in Pakistan runs Rs. 4,800 – 6,200 for a Tier-1 compatible backlit keyboard, or Rs. 6,200 – 7,500 for a genuine Lenovo FRU unit. If only the camera shutter slider on Gen 8-10 units has broken while the keys themselves work fine, ask us about a shutter-only fix — it's a smaller, cheaper part (Rs. 800-1,200) that doesn't require a full keyboard swap.

Cost breakdown

compatible

price
Rs. 4,800 – 6,200
notes
Tier-1 compatible backlit keyboard matched to your exact generation and layout. Same 1.5mm key travel and scissor feel as original — the choice most X1 Carbon owners make.

oem

Rs. 6,200 – 7,500
notes
Genuine Lenovo FRU keyboard, including the camera shutter slider on Gen 8-10 units. Preferred for corporate assets tracked under a genuine-parts IT policy.

labour

Included in the price above. Bench time: 30-60 minutes — screw-mounted, no adhesive, though the thinner chassis requires slightly more careful handling than a standard T-series unit.

warranty

15-day workmanship warranty plus a 30-day warranty on the keyboard unit itself. Covers key registration, backlight, and camera shutter (where applicable).

Signs your keyboard needs replacement

  • One or more keys don't register, double-type, or feel different in travel from the rest of the keyboard
  • Keys are sticky or stiff following a liquid spill, even after cleaning
  • The physical camera shutter slider (Gen 8-10) is stuck, loose, or won't move at all
  • An entire row or section of keys stops registering together, pointing to a ribbon cable fault rather than individual wear
  • The keyboard backlight has stopped working while keys still register normally

Turnaround time

Walk-in

Same day for walk-ins — most Windows business-laptop keyboard swaps take 30-60 minutes once you approve the quote, because the keyboard is screw-mounted with no adhesive.

Courier from other cities

5-9 working days round-trip from Lahore, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Islamabad, Rawalpindi or Sargodha; 7-13 working days from Karachi, Multan, Peshawar, Hyderabad, Abbottabad or Bahawalpur; 9-16 working days from Quetta or Sukkur. That covers courier there, free diagnosis within 24 hours of arrival, the repair itself, and courier back — we confirm your exact date on WhatsApp once diagnosis is done.

Frequently asked

Can I replace the X1 Carbon's keyboard myself?

It's more involved than the T-series but still moderately DIY-friendly — the bottom cover comes off with standard screws and no adhesive, and the keyboard connects via a ribbon cable. If you're comfortable with a small screwdriver and static precautions it's doable, though the thinner chassis leaves less margin for error than a T480.

My camera shutter is stuck — do I need a full keyboard replacement?

Not necessarily. On Gen 8-10 X1 Carbons, the physical camera shutter slider is a separate small part from the keyboard itself, and we can often replace just the shutter mechanism for Rs. 800-1,200 if the keys are otherwise working fine. We check this specifically before quoting a full keyboard swap.

Can you fix a single key instead of replacing the whole keyboard?

Yes, for Rs. 600-1,000 per key, if only one or two keys are physically affected with no liquid damage. Widespread spill damage or a fault affecting multiple keys together usually means the ribbon cable or connector is involved, in which case full keyboard replacement is the more reliable fix.

Does this repair void any remaining Lenovo warranty?

If your X1 Carbon is a recent corporate purchase under Lenovo's Premier or on-site warranty, check coverage via serial number on Lenovo's support site before using third-party repair. Most X1 Carbons reaching us (Gen 6-8 especially) are already past that window, and our own 15-day workmanship plus 30-day keyboard warranty applies instead.

Is it worth replacing the keyboard on an X1 Carbon given its resale value?

Yes — a working Gen 6-8 X1 Carbon still sells for Rs. 55,000-75,000 used, and the keyboard job at Rs. 4,800-7,500 is roughly 7-11% of that. Since the X1 Carbon's keyboard quality is a big part of why people buy this laptop over a cheaper ultrabook, restoring it properly is almost always worth doing.
