What this part does
The motherboard is the main circuit board. The processor, memory, ports and almost every other part connect to it. Many laptops have the CPU soldered on, so the board and CPU are sold together.
Signs you need a new one
- The laptop does not power on, or turns on with no picture.
- It restarts at random or shuts down after a few minutes.
- It does not charge, even with a known good charger and battery.
- Beep codes, a blinking power light, or a short pattern on the keyboard lights.
- Liquid damage, burn marks or a smell of burnt plastic from inside.
Check this before you order
- Read the motherboard code printed on the board itself, often near the edge.
- Match the CPU model, since most boards are made for one CPU family only.
- Check if your laptop has a dedicated graphics chip (GPU) or only integrated, and pick the same.
- Compare the number of RAM slots, and check whether RAM is soldered.
Fitting: Technician recommended
The whole laptop must come apart. Use an anti-static wrist strap and disconnect the battery first. Poor handling can break connectors and tiny parts. Reapply thermal paste on the heatsink.

Common questions
Is a new motherboard the only fix for a dead laptop?
Not always. A bad charger, battery or RAM can look the same. A technician can test them first.
Will my data and Windows still work?
Your drive keeps the data. Windows may need to be activated again because the board has changed.
Can a board be repaired instead?
Many faults can be fixed at chip level. Ask a board-level technician before buying a full board.
