Signs you need a new one
- One key or a whole row stops typing, or types the wrong letter.
- Keys type on their own or repeat without being pressed.
- Liquid was spilled and keys now feel sticky or dead.
- Backlight works only in patches or not at all.
- A key cap or the small clip under it is broken and the key will not stay on.
How to get the right fit
- Read the exact model name on the sticker under the laptop, then compare it with the model in the listing.
- Look at the layout: US or UK, Enter key shape (flat or tall L-shape), and whether a number pad is present.
- Check if your keyboard has a backlight. A backlit and a non-backlit board are not always interchangeable.
- Match the ribbon connector width and position, and check if a frame (bezel) is attached to the old keyboard.
Common questions
Can I just replace one broken key instead of the whole keyboard?
Sometimes. If only the plastic cap or clip is broken, a single key kit can work. If the rubber dome or the board under it is damaged, the full keyboard is the right fix.
My keyboard has Urdu stickers. Will the new one differ?
The new keyboard will usually have standard English printing. Stickers are not part of the keyboard, so you can add them again if you wish.
Is the problem the keyboard or the motherboard?
Try an external USB keyboard. If that works but the built-in one does not, the keyboard or its ribbon is the likely cause. If both fail, the board may be at fault.
