What this part does
The speakers are two small drivers, left and right, inside the case. They usually sit near the front edge or beside the hinges. Each speaker connects to the motherboard through a short wire pair with a small plug.
Signs you need a new one
- No sound from one side, or from both.
- Crackling, buzzing or distorted sound at normal volume.
- Sound is very quiet even at full volume, while headphones are loud.
- A rattling noise when bass plays.
Check this before you order
- First test headphones. If they work, the speakers or wiring are the likely cause.
- Check the plug shape and the wire length of the old speaker set.
- Check if the listing is a left and right pair or a single unit.
- Compare the speaker size and screw holes. A small difference can stop it from seating.
Fitting: Moderate
The speakers are often under the keyboard area or hinges, so more of the laptop has to come apart. Disconnect the battery and route the wires exactly as before so they do not get trapped.

Common questions
Could this just be a software problem?
Yes. Update the audio driver and check the sound settings first. If headphones work fine and the driver is fine, the speaker is suspect.
Do I need both speakers replaced?
Not always. If only one side is bad, one unit will do, but a pair keeps the sound balanced if both are old.
Why does sound crackle only at high volume?
The cone or the wire joint may be damaged. A new speaker usually removes it.
