What this part does
The webcam cable links the camera module in the screen lid to the motherboard. It is a thin wire run that goes through the hinge. On many laptops it shares the path of the display cable, or it is bonded to it.
Signs you need a new one
- The camera shows no image or the app says no camera found.
- The camera works only at a certain lid angle.
- The webcam light is on but the picture is black.
- The wire is pinched, cut or has a loose plug.
Check this before you order
- Count the pins and look at the plug shape on both ends.
- Check the cable length so it reaches from the lid to the board.
- Find out if the camera has its own cable or is on the display cable.
- Check that the camera module itself works, if you can.

Remove the bezel to reach the camera plug. Disconnect the battery first. Route the cable through the hinge the same way as before, and avoid sharp bends.
