What this part does
Hinges are the metal joints that hold the lid to the base and let it open and close. They are usually a left and right pair, bolted to the lid and the base. Worn hinges can pull on the screen cable or crack the plastic around them.

- The lid will not stay open and slowly falls back.
- A cracking or clicking noise when you open or close it.
- The lid is stiff on one side and loose on the other.
- Plastic around the hinge is cracked or the screw posts have broken out.
