What this part does
The fan pushes hot air from the heatsink out through the vents. It is usually a small blower unit mounted beside the heatsink pipes, near the CPU and graphics chip. Gaming and workstation models may have two fans.
Signs you need a new one
- Loud grinding, rattling or buzzing from the vent area.
- The laptop gets very hot and slows down or shuts off under load.
- Fan error message at start-up, or the fan never spins.
- Fan runs at full speed all the time even when the laptop is idle.
- Little or no air comes out of the vent even though the fan seems to run.
Check this before you order
- Check the fan part number printed on a sticker on the old fan, if it is readable.
- Count the wires on the plug (commonly 3 or 4 pins) and check the plug shape.
- Note the fan voltage, usually 5V, written on the fan.
- Check whether your model has a CPU fan, a GPU fan, or both, and pick the correct one.
Fitting: Moderate
You must open the back panel and often remove the heatsink to reach the fan. Disconnect the battery first. If the heatsink comes off, clean the old paste and apply fresh thermal paste when you put it back.

Common questions
Can dust alone cause these problems?
Yes. Dust and summer heat are a common mix in Pakistan. A deep clean sometimes fixes noise and heat, but a worn bearing needs a new fan.
Do I need new thermal paste with the fan?
Only if the heatsink is lifted. If it stays fixed in place, the paste is not disturbed.
Is a fan with the same plug but a different shape safe?
No. The blade size, thickness and screw holes must match, or it may touch the case or not seat on the heatsink.
