What this part does
The Touch Bar is the narrow touch strip that replaces the function keys on some MacBook Pro models. Behind the glass strip is a small display and its cable. It also may carry the Touch ID button, depending on the model.
Signs you need a new one
- The strip is blank, flickers or stays frozen.
- Buttons on the bar do not respond or press the wrong thing.
- The glass is cracked, or part of the bar is dark.
- The Touch ID button does not read the fingerprint.
Check this before you order
- Check the model number (A-number) at the bottom of the laptop and the year.
- Check whether the part is the display strip, the cable, or the strip with the keyboard upper case.
- Check if the Touch ID button is part of it.
- Confirm the connector type with the listing.
Fitting: Technician recommended
On many MacBooks the Touch Bar is attached to the upper case, and a fix needs the whole upper case or board-level work. Disconnect the battery first. Fingerprint features may be tied to the logic board.

Common questions
Can I restart the Touch Bar without a repair?
In macOS you can restart it through Activity Monitor by quitting the Touch Bar process. If it stays dead, hardware may be at fault.
Will Touch ID still work after the change?
That depends on the part and the model, since the sensor is paired with the board.
Is it the same part for all MacBook Pros?
No. Parts differ by year and screen size.
