What this part does
This is the thin flat ribbon that links the trackpad to the motherboard. It is short, so the connector and the folds near it take a lot of stress. A damaged ribbon can look exactly like a dead trackpad.
Signs you need a new one
- The trackpad stops working, but the external mouse is fine.
- The pointer works only when the palm-rest is pressed.
- Pointer jumps and clicks by itself.
- The ribbon is torn, creased or dirty at the contacts.
Check this before you order
- Count the pins and measure the width of the ribbon.
- Check the contact side: up or down at each end.
- Check the length from end to end.
- Make sure your model uses a separate cable and not one fixed to the trackpad.

The locking tab on the connector is tiny. Lift it with a plastic tool, slide the ribbon in straight, then close the tab. Disconnect the battery first.
