What We Check on the Spot

Once we have an idea, we pull out a few options in their range from our stock. We don’t just hand them over — we power them up right at the counter. First, we check the battery health using a quick software tool. Then we open the laptop, check keyboard travel, trackpad responsiveness, and screen brightness and any dead pixels.

We run a simple stress test to see if the processor and RAM can handle a few browser tabs and a code editor simultaneously. If the fan is noisy or the system throttles, that laptop goes back on the shelf. We only show what passes our basic sanity check.

Laying Out the Options

After testing, we present the student with two or three solid choices. We explain the trade-offs clearly: one may have a slightly newer processor but less RAM, another may have more RAM but an older generation CPU. We let them decide based on what matters more for their specific coursework.
