How to check if a used laptop deal is fair in Pakistan
To check if a used laptop deal is fair in Pakistan, compare the asking price with a shop price for the same processor generation, RAM and storage, then ask for the battery report, test it in person and never pay advance or token money. A private sale with no warranty should usually cost less than a tested shop laptop.
Runs in your browser. Your text and photos are not uploaded or saved. (Only if you press “Get an AI second opinion” is the ad text sent to our server — never the photos.)
What can you check here?
People use this tool when they ask questions like these about a laptop ad:
- Is this used laptop price fair?
- Is this OLX laptop ad a scam?
- Is this second hand laptop worth buying?
- How do I check a used laptop before buying?
- Is this MacBook locked (iCloud or MDM)?
- What should I ask the seller?
- Is 65k too much for an i5 laptop?
How to use it
- 01
Paste the ad or add screenshots
Copy the whole ad — title, description and price — from OLX, Facebook Marketplace or WhatsApp, or add up to 4 screenshots. Links can't be opened, so paste the text or a screenshot instead.
- 02
Fix the specs
Check what the tool read. Change the processor, generation or RAM if it got anything wrong.
- 03
Read the verdict and flags
See how the price compares with shop prices for similar specs, and which words in the ad need checking.
- 04
Take the checklist
Send the seller questions on WhatsApp, then use the checklist when you test the laptop in person.
Where the price range comes from
The range is built from 582 laptops currently in stock at NN Laptops, grouped by brand, processor family and generation (or Apple chip), RAM and graphics. When there is no exact match, the tool widens the search step by step and tells you which match it used. It is our shop's price for tested laptops with a 30-day check warranty — a fair reference, not a nationwide average. For a quick price on a specific model, try the Laptop Price Checker.
Popular checks: what tested used laptops cost
These are the most common brand and processor groups in our used stock right now. Use them to judge an ad for the same kind of laptop. Prices are our own listed prices, not a market average.

The warning signs it looks for
| In the ad | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Advance or token money | Money sent before you see the laptop is very hard to get back. Pay only after testing. |
| No testing allowed | You cannot know what you are buying. Ask for 20–30 minutes to test. |
| iCloud, Activation Lock, MDM | A Mac tied to someone else's account or a company can lock itself after a reset. |
| BIOS password | Often an ex-company lock; can need chip-level work, or may not be removable. |
| “Board issue”, “display line” | A known fault — get a repair quote before agreeing a price. |
| “Box pack” or “brand new” | Ask for the sealed box and check the warranty with the serial number on the maker's site. |
| “UK / USA imported” | Where it came from says nothing about condition. Judge the unit itself. |
| No battery details | A replacement battery can cost a big share of the price. Ask for the battery report or cycle count. |
| Price far below the range | There is usually a reason. Find it before you pay. |

Used Laptop Deal Checker — FAQ
How does the Used Laptop Deal Checker work?
You paste the full text of a used laptop ad, or add screenshots of it. The tool reads the brand, model, processor and generation, RAM, storage, screen size and asking price — it understands formats like "65k", "65 hazar" and "1.2 lac". It then compares the price with NN Laptops' current prices for in-stock laptops with similar specs, scans the ad wording for common warning signs, and builds an inspection checklist and a list of questions for the seller. Everything runs in your browser.
Is the price range a market average?
No. It is NN Laptops' own current price list for tested laptops in stock at our Hafeez Center shop, which come with a 30-day check warranty. It is an honest reference point, not an average of every seller in Pakistan. A private sale without a warranty is normally a bit cheaper than a shop price, and battery health, exact model and condition can move a fair price up or down.
What do the verdicts mean?
"Suspiciously cheap" means the price is far below similar shop prices — there is usually a reason, such as a fault, a lock, a weak battery or a lower spec. "Good price" means it is clearly cheaper than a shop, so it is worth buying if the laptop passes your checks. "Fair price" means it is close to shop prices. "On the high side" means it costs more than similar laptops — ask what makes it worth more, or negotiate.
Does a red flag mean the seller is dishonest?
No. Many honest sellers write "box pack", "UK imported" or "10/10 condition" in good faith. A flag only tells you what to check before paying. The few flags marked High — advance or token money, no testing allowed, iCloud or BIOS locks, or an admitted fault — are the ones where buyers most often lose money, so take extra care with them.
How do I check a used MacBook for Activation Lock or MDM?
Ask the seller to sign out of their Apple ID in front of you. Then hold the Option key, open the Apple menu and click System Information; under Hardware, "Activation Lock Status" should say Disabled. In Terminal, the command profiles status -type enrollment should show No for both lines, which means it is not managed by a company. Finally, check the battery cycle count under System Information → Power.
How do I check a used ThinkPad, Latitude or EliteBook for a BIOS password?
Restart the laptop and press the BIOS key — F1 on most Lenovo ThinkPads, F2 on Dell, F10 on HP. The BIOS should open without asking for a supervisor password. Also look at the security page for Computrace or Absolute: it should not be activated. Ex-company laptops are common in Pakistan and are fine to buy, but a locked BIOS can be expensive or impossible to remove.
Can I paste an OLX or Facebook link instead of the text?
Not directly. OLX and Facebook block automatic reading of their ads, so the tool cannot open a link for you. Open the ad yourself, then either take screenshots and add them as photos, or copy the ad text and paste it into the box. If you paste only a link, the tool shows this message instead of guessing.
How does the photo upload work?
You can add up to 4 photos or screenshots — the ad, the spec sticker under the laptop, the About or System Information screen, the BIOS page or a battery report. The tool reads the text in the photos with OCR (text recognition) inside your own browser, adds it to any text you pasted and then runs the normal check. The first time, it downloads the text reader (a few MB). Photo reading can mix up some letters, so check the specs it found.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Photos are read on your own phone or computer and are never uploaded. The pasted text is not saved either. The only time text leaves your device is when you press "Get an AI second opinion" (only the text is sent, never photos) or a WhatsApp or copy button yourself.
What is the AI second opinion?
It is an optional extra after the normal check. The ad text, the specs and our shop price range are sent to an AI model, which gives a short verdict (good, fair, overpriced or suspicious), red flags and extra questions. AI can be wrong, so treat it as an extra idea, not a final answer. It has a small daily limit; if it is busy you get a rules-based summary instead.
How can I tell if an OLX laptop ad is a scam?
Common scam signs are a price far below similar laptops, a seller who asks for advance or token money, refuses to meet or let you test, or sends a courier before you have seen the laptop. Stock photos, a new account and pressure to decide fast are also warning signs. Meet in a public place, test the laptop for 20 to 30 minutes and pay only after you are happy. The checker highlights these words in the ad, but it cannot verify the seller for you.
Is a used laptop at 50 percent of the shop price a good deal?
Not always. A price that low usually has a reason, such as a weak battery, a BIOS or iCloud lock, a screen or board fault, or a lower spec than the ad says. It can still be a good deal if the laptop passes every check, but ask why the price is low and get the battery report before you pay. The checker marks prices far below shop prices as suspiciously cheap so you look closer.
Can I ask NN Laptops about an ad?
Yes. Send the ad or a few photos on WhatsApp to 0314 4000131 and ask for our opinion. You can also visit Shop 66A, 3rd Floor, Hafeez Center, Gulberg III, Lahore (10:00 AM – 10:00 PM, closed Sunday).
